Joyce outdid herself with this beautiful country. I had no idea what to expect and when we arrived in April 2003, I was bowled over by the beauty of this natural paradise. We stayed in the capitol, San Jose, which is in the center of the country in the mountains. The weather was stunning; 80's during the day and 65ish at night.
The resort we stayed at (Marriott San Jose) was only 20 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from a mall. We did a lot of driving with numerous day trips. I must say, the butterfly farm we visited was an extreme highlight for me. I did go a bit nuts with the photos of butterflies, but I got several incredible shots.
The hummingbird garden, part of a park complex (La Paz Waterfall Gardens) that includes multiple waterfalls, more butterflies and is not far from one of three volcanoes in Costa Rica. This park complex has expanded greatly since we were there adding a lodge, a trout lake and they even have an animal preserve!
The volcano we visited (Volcan Poas) is inactive and quite a sight . One picture of a hummingbird at the feeder is my personal favorite.
