Hawaii is an absolutely stunning destination.  Actually, all we can attest to is that Maui and Kaui are stunning destinations.  The funny part is that I have no desire to see if the other islands are as nice, except for possibly Molokai (The Friendly Isle).

Maui, The Mountain Isle, had limited night life and that was fine by Joyce and I.   The scenery is incredible.  From the volcano to the outer roads you aren't supposed to use the rental cars on (wink, wink), it is truly Paradise.  Our first trip here was for our honeymoon in 1986.  Of course back then, during the dark ages, we didn't have a digital camera.  All the pictures are from the 2000 trip.  Both trips were during October and a lovely time of year it is in Hawaii!!!  Maui will have three sets of photos.  The first will include shots taken in one of the coolest aquariums I have ever seen, The Maui Ocean Center.  The next set will be of our trek up Haleakala.  The final set will include shots from our travels around the island.
Kauai is known as the Garden Isle and it is easy to see why.  It is more rural, less citified than Maui and it is a beautiful place to drive around.  We went on a kayak trip up the Wailua River and discovered a hidden waterfall.  The Eastern, Northeastern Coast is inaccessible to all but planes, boats and helicopters, and that is where they did filming for the Jurassic Park movies.  Of course that is where we wanted to head first.

Waimea Canyon is the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" and is near the inaccessible areas.

In order to get as close to the inaccessible area as possible (Na Pali Coast), we drove through an active sugar cane field for 10-15 minutes, parked in a small strip of sand and walked over a dune to find an incredible beach.
